Drapes

Through the repetitive executions of layering images, I realized that the canvas is also a piece of material woven through vertical and horizontal threads. Like artifacts, I wanted to demonstrate that this painting is only a piece of fabric, showing its essence, like the Dao. I painted on translucent fabrics like organdy, satin, and silk, which revealed individual threads. Instead of applying gesso and covering all the gaps of the canvas, I chose to key transfer my painting onto the fabric so that ink was applied directly to the threads, making the threads a part of the texture of my painting.
This series of drapes in the painting showcases my introspections like a journal. When I translate digitally manipulated images into paintings, I filter information to its core, leaving only its essence behind. However, when I print them on loose fabric, they become more raw and perceptible in texture, yet softer in color and appearance than their digital origins.
